TSU's "Our Story"
Monday, September 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM (CDT)
Texas Southern University has embarked upon an ambitious journey to tell OUR STORY. The “Our Story” project presents an opportunity for the university to be proactive in shaping its image. The various components of the project tell “Our Story” in an informative and objective light from the university’s perspective. Begun as a signature project of the Earl Carl Institute, a think tank at the university, the project is now an institutional one which officially launches during the 2012 Founders Day Celebrations.
• The “Our Story” project was designed to place a historically accurate face on the university by spotlighting people and events that have had profound impacts on this state but that have largely gone unnoticed.
• These portrayals will be made through various media, including publications, oral recordings, videography, and photography. Products resulting from the Our Story project will serve as vehicles to educate prospective and current students, alumni and the community as a whole on the rich history of TSU and its notable accomplishments.
• It is anticipated that increased knowledge about all things positive and unique to the university will instill a sense of increased school pride and ownership among current and prospective students, alumni and the community as a whole.
OUR STORY PRESIDENTS’ EDITION
The Our Story project will launch officially during the 85th Anniversary of the University as the centerpiece of events leading up to the September 14, 2012 Founders’ Day. Specifically, ECI will launch the sale of the print volume of the OUR STORY President’s Edition and screen an one-hour video oral history of our presidents.
We also plan to have the 150 page Coffee Table Book for sale during Founders Day, a more comprehensive Web-Based Publication will go on-line, a Museum Exhibit is scheduled for that month and a Documentary will be available.
Coffee Table and Web-Based Publications
The first OUR STORY publication will be the Presidents’ Edition entitled “Our Story Presidents’ Edition: TSU Legends & Leaders.” The publication is a history of the 11 presidents of Texas Southern University.
